We would like to emphasize the importance of Kidney Disease Awareness!. Kidney Disease is a fast growing epidemic in the United States and people must be aware of it! Here are some facts about Kidney Disease:

  • Kidney diseases are a leading cause of death in the United States.

  • About 37 million US adults are estimated to have Kidney Disease, and most are undiagnosed.

  • 40% of people with severely reduced kidney function (not on dialysis) are not aware of having Kidney Disease

  • Every 24 hours, 360 people begin dialysis treatment for kidney failure..

  • Kidney Disease affects all ages, races and genders

  • In the United States, diabetes and high blood pressure are the leading causes of kidney failure, accounting for 3 out of 4 new cases.

  • Kidney Disease is NOT Contagious 

  • Kidney Disease is more common in adults over 70.

  • ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) is the term when your kidney's fail all the way.

  • There are 5 Stages to Kidney Disease and stage 5 is the worse.

  • Treatment for ESRD is a Kidney Transplant or Dialysis or you will die.

  • African Americans are about 3-1/2 times more likely to develop Kidney Disease than Caucasians.

  • Hispanics are about 1-1/2 times more likely to develop Kidney Disease than non-Hispanics.

  • A Kidney Doctor is called a Nephrologist.

  • We have 2 Kidney's and they almost always both fail with Kidney Disease.
